Writing activity: "Write your own yummy recipe"

Hello Bloggers,

My name is Olga Boluda and this activity has been created to help students practice and improve their writing skills as well as to increase their vocabulary related to food. Students will be given examples of different recipes and will have to create their own while practicing vocabulary through a game.

Learning objectives:

- Learn food related vocabulary.

- Learn to give instructions (use of the imperative verbs in recipes).

- Learn that there are different genres in writing.

- Learn to write a recipe and the parts involved. 

Students will start by watching a YouTube video where the written instructions and the images are combined. This will enable students to learn new vocabulary. Another recipe, now written in the format they should follow, is also given as an example. This will be used as scaffolding in order to give vocabulary and a structure format for students to write their own recipes.

In order to increase students vocabulary related to food they should play in pairs or groups of four the game Yummy Recipes Blockbusters Quiz. The quiz has been created through the www.teachers-direct.co.uk free resources. 

This activity is done through Padlet as it enables students to be creative, upload their recipes and share them, as well as to do other complementary activities. It is also used as it allows students to review as many times as they need the material worked outside the classroom helping them to be autonomous in their English learning.
